Charleston -

The brick-lined streets of Charleston’s historic downtown Village District are now home to The Manahan Group (TMG). TMG owner George Manahan and RMS Strategies owner Robert Samples purchased one of the early twentieth century buildings on Capitol Street in December 2004 and are in the process of renovating and preserving the structure.

The Manahan Group now occupies the fourth floor of the building at 222 Capitol Street, the first of the floors to be renovated this spring. RMS Strategies will move into the fifth floor next month.

"We’re very happy to be able to help preserve part of Charleston’s magnificent past," said Manahan. "The renovation brings to this building a new façade that is worthy of the history of this street and an interior design that reflects the forward-thinking and contemporary nature of today’s business climate."

Capitol Street was home to some of Charleston’s earliest settlers and many of its first Victorian-style buildings still stand today. The building at 222 used to house the A.W. Cox & Sons Department Store and, more recently, Lance’s Card and Party Store. Vacant for more than a decade before Manahan and Samples purchased it, the building’s interior was designed in the style of a Manhattan loft.

"The building says a lot about who we are," Manahan said. "It has an established, solid past, and the modernization of the interior is in keeping with the fresh, dynamic approach we take to advertising, public relations and research."

The building was the last to be renovated in the Village District. The basement of the five-story structure will feature a media-training and courtroom litigation center as well as an exercise facility for tenants. The first three floors are available for commercial lease.

The building was renovated by EIMORS Construction Company. Interior design was provided by Contemporary Galleries.
